Advocating for Families

Divorce can bring out the worst in people — but it doesn’t have to be that way. Leigh Noffsinger believes that sound guidance from lawyers acting with integrity can keep clients’ inevitable anxiety and anger in check. Rather than allowing high emotions to derail negotiations or escalate conflicts to court, Leigh provides a calm and supportive approach, aimed at meeting client needs and reaching equitable settlements. One of the most experienced collaborative divorce attorneys in Western Washington, Leigh has handled a wide range of divorce cases:

  • High net worth clients with complex assets

  • Parents or children with particular needs requiring nuanced parenting plans

  • High-profile clients needing added privacy protections

  • Clients needing extra referrals and support as they struggle with addiction or mental illness

Leigh is passionate about supporting families in transition, gently steering them back to the high road and out of the weeds. She works with progressive-minded clients to reach fair outcomes, for stable happy homes after marriages end.

COLLABORATIVE DIVORCE

In a collaborative law process, each spouse has a specially trained attorney with expertise in de-escalating conflict and working with (rather than against) the other attorney to support clients in crafting durable agreements that meet both spouses’ and their kids’ needs. Using a team approach of specially trained professionals — including financial analysts, and mental health professionals — a collaborative divorce provides holistic support to families in transition.  Collaborative law provides a highly structured meetings-based approach for spouses working their way through difficult conflicts around parenting, division of assets, alimony, and child support.

MEDIATed divorce

In interest-based mediation, Leigh works as a neutral facilitator with both spouses, to structure constructive discussions on all topics necessary for divorce agreements, from division of assets to parenting. Leigh has developed a number of tools — checklists, worksheets, and detailed handouts — to enable spouses to narrow the issues so that joint mediation sessions can be used as efficiently as possible to resolve conflicts. Mediation can provide a good option for divorcing couples who are able to communicate their needs directly but need a neutral voice to help them spot issues and find compromise.
